Fremad Rescue - Barbados 1974
While anchored off the yacht club in Bridgetown,
Barbados one afternoon, we were notified by the crew of a passing
sloop, that another Baltic Trader - Fremad, hailing from
London, was drifting out to sea and had signaled for assistance. Her engine
would not start she was not able to sail very effectively to windward and she
desperately needed a tow. Apparently, her anchor line had parted sometime
during the previous evening and the ship had begun to drift slowly out on
the tide and was now five to six miles offshore. With a very limited Klaraborg
crew, we raised the hook, fired up our trusty GM 371 engine and
motored out to rescue the crew of Fremad. This is what it
looked like. Ove Linner at the helm, our Swedish flag flying jauntily in the
breeze as we towed Fremad back to safe harbor.
