Stern

This photo of the deck, at the stern of Klaraborg, was taken in Recife, Brazil, in 1974. At the time, we were anchored in the fairway of this bustling seaport, in northern Brazil and were busy rebuilding the rudder/wheel steering-gear assembly, that had worn out. We were given some wood decking by a local merchant and also rebuilt the foot-deck, which housed the rudder chain steering mechanism.

One of the coiled mono-filament fishing lines, that we trailed behind the ship, while at sea, for deep sea fishing, can be clearly seen hanging off a cleat, on the taffrail.

The steel funnel seen in the foreground, was used to capture fresh rainwater off the navigation cabin during rainstorms. The navy anchor tied down on deck, was a spare we carried on deck, that had been recovered from an anchorage, in the Pacific.
